Magenta Makeup And Hair

What I do for Make-Up and Hair (Without wigs!)

Please note that this is what I do. I’m not saying this is the only way or the best way but this is what I do and if it helps someone awesome.

Magenta

Hair:

1.  Before you get into the shower, brush your hair. Brush it normally and then flip your head so you can get the back of your hair. (This will help later and will cause less pain when blow-drying.)

2.  If you don’t have auburn hair, buy spray on or temporary hair dye. If you decide to wear temporary hair dye read the instructions and follow them. Next, wash your hair thoroughly with both shampoo and conditioner making sure to get out all the snarls. I tend to leave conditioner in for 4 minutes making sure it works its way into the hair.

(If you use hair dye read on but if not skip to the next step) If you decide to use spray hair dye, spray it in before you blow-dry the hair. Let it sit for a few minutes and then begin to blow dry. Start to work on the front but after a minute or two flip your hair so you focus on the back. Next rinse out your hair again and continue to the next step)

3.  Towel-dry your hair and then comb it again. Once fully untangled, create small braids, taking strips approximately six centimeters in size.

4.  If you are short on time, after braiding all of your hair, blow dry but if you have time, let it air dry.

Now Continue To Makeup!

1.  Take out a makeup brush that you are willing to use to cover your face with foundation. (I tend to use ‘True Match Porcelain W1’ by L’OREAL.)Apply the foundation to the brush and basically ‘paint’ your face. I suggest avoiding underneath your eyes because you’re going to put scotch tape under them. Be sure to trail half way down your neck so it looks natural and blends.

2.  Next, take out a makeup sponge and blend in the foundation so it looks more natural. After doing this, apply powder to your face to help set the color (I tend to use ‘02 Transparent’ by Estée Lauder).

3.  After your foundation is all blended in, place scotch tape under your eyes so any eye shadow that doesn’t make it to your eyelid will fall onto the tape instead of onto your skin.

4.  Begin to outline the shadow shape with a fine tipped makeup brush to help with perfecting the shape a lot easier. First cover your lid with a brown shadow and make sure it is fully covered. Then draw light purple half moons which extend above the eye crease, leaving some space between the brow and the top of the half moons. The edge of the half moons should be a little further than the outer corner of her eye. Fill in with purple eyeshadow down to the eyecrease. Fill in up to the eyecrease with the brown eyeshadow and the brown should barely show when your eyes open. If you have white lipstick wonderful but if not, you can finish this step with white eyeshadow. Fill in the space between the shadow and the brow with this. A simple diagram can be found here

5.  Get out a black eye pencil or liquid eyeliner (I tend to use ‘Define-A-Line’ by Maybelline in Ebony Black). Line your eyes heavily because Magenta’s eyeliner goes nearly all the way up to her eyecrease. (When I put the eyeliner on my top lid I keep my eye open and apply it that way). Line above and below the lower lashes or it won’t look dark enough. If you don’t wear fake lower lashes, draw some in.

6.  Now, you need to darken in your eyebrows if you have very light eyebrows like I do. I use eyeshadow on my eyebrows instead of a pencil because it’s a lot easier and easier to fix if you mess up. If you plan on wearing Magenta’s Time Warp costume then use a brown. (I tend to use the same color brown on my eyebrows that I do on my eyes). If you plan on using a costume from ‘The Takeover’ use black eyeshadow. But I personally think the brown looks better with darker shading in different places. Also keep in mind that her brows are fairly long and are mostly horizontal with a little arch to them.

7.  You also need to apply lipstick. Magenta has a sort of deep red lipstick,

8.  Honestly, I’m not very fond of fake eyelashes so I tend to put on a lot of mascara on my top and bottom lashes. (I use ‘BIG Great Lash’ by Maybelline in the brownish black). Every few minutes reapply mascara until you think you believe your lashes are long enough.

(If you would like to apply fake eyelashes continue reading:

  • The eyelashes make the look what it is and honestly, need to be used. If the lash strip is too long, trim it because the strip will poke you in the eye and you will ruin the hard work you spent on your make-up thus far. Use clear glue, not black, so if you make a mistake it won’t show and you can cover it with mascara later. If the eyelashes don’t have glue in them or the glue is dreadful, be sure to buy the kind in a tube, not a bottle. Please note that if you’re allergic to latex, do not use eyelash glue because almost all of the eyelash glue contains latex.
  • Apply glue lightly to lashes. I tend to apply it straight from the tube but you can use a toothpick or small brush if you find it best. Before applying lashes, give the glue 30 seconds to get sticky. Flex the lashes a little to give them the curved shape they’ll take when glued to your lids. Apply carefully as close to your natural lashes as possible. If you get any glue on your fingers, remove it or you will get glue everywhere. Reposition lashes only if you absolutely must. They are harder to position correctly the second time.
  • Once the glue dries, apply black mascara to both top and bottom lashes. After applying fake lashes it helps to gently reapply the mascara, this will help to cover up visible eyelash glue and helps stick them to the real lashes.

Last step: PUT ON YOUR COSTUME!!!
